• Purpose of the Institute
  • Focuses on integrating the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of neuromuscular diseases that, despite causing significant impairment, have received little societal or academic attention.
  • Help patients in overcoming illness and leading healthy lives by exploring effective treatment options.
• Main Research Areas
  • Research : Research on neuromuscular diseases is carried out, including basic research on myoblast cultures, clinical research on pulmonary rehabilitation and the development of medical devices in connection with Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center of Gangnam Severance Hospital, Yonsei University College of Medicine.
  • Education : We offers training courses for doctors, graduate students, medical students, patients, and the general public. Every year, a workshop and a symposium on pulmonary rehabilitation are held in March and September, respectively. We also conduct symposiums for patients and caregivers of rare, incurable neuromuscular diseases, as well as educational sessions for doctors in regional hospital. Additionally, we host international forums, intensive pulmonary rehabilitation training programs for foreign doctors. Many medical professionals around the world have participated in these programs.
  • International Collaboration : Our institute collaborates on research on neuromuscular diseases with the National Foundation of MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association, USA), Cell Therapy Research Foundation(USA), Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation(USA), New Jersey Medical School, Department of Rehabilitation & Regenerative Medicine(USA), Columbia University Medical Center(USA).
  • Patient Support : In order to provide patients with neuromuscular diseases with a systematic management and treatment plan, we routinely survey their current conditions. We also raise various funds to support patient treatment costs.
  • Changing the public’s misconceptions : We work to correct patients' and the general public's misconceptions about the neuromuscular disorders.
